Michaël Vrijmoed is one of the creators of Vrijmoed Gin. He is a chef of the new generation formed by his former teachers, Guy Van Cauteren (‘t Laurierblad) and Peter Goossens (Hof van Cleve). In his restaurant, in the heart of the vibrant city of Ghent, he brings a contemporary kitchen. A kitchen which bursts with dynamism, his own signature and honest flavours. Eight months after opening, Vrijmoed already received a Michelin star. In 2015, Gault & Millau awarded the restaurant entitled “Young Chef of Flanders”. Next to this, Restaurant Vrijmoed also carries the following titles: “Best veggie menu Benelux” and “Best dessert of the year 2017” Gault & Millau.
About Vrijmoed Gin & Genever
For a long time, Michaël played with the idea of developing a modern and unique Gin. Together with Benjamin De Buck, Vrijmoed’s sommelier, his idea came true. They presented it to their good friends Hildegard and Bas Van Ostaden of The Bassets Craft Distillery in Ruiselede. Everybody bulged with enthusiasm and after many conversations and tastings, they managed to translate the recipe into true craftsmanship. In the end, both drinks have arisen with respect for the ancient craft and tradition of distilling, but with a modern twist. That was the goal of Michaël and Benjamin.
Vrijmoed Gin Tasting Notes
Vrijmoed Gin envelops a full rich flavor complemented with kaffir, coriander, mint and ginger. It is three times distilled with great care and know-how. Therefore, the result is a gin full of flavour and a soft finish.
Vrijmoed Genever Tasting Notes
Subtle round flavours envelop this genever. Herbal and spicy ingredients, like juniper, angelica, St. John’s wort and star anise, make this genever a work of art. Since genever is the older brother of gin, it is definitely worth a try!
